For sailing enthusiasts there are great options, maybe try kitesurfing. Then just hop back on the launch when you’re ready to return.

Weather

The climate here is generally warm and sunny. The average temperature is around 27°C/81°F. Seasonal variations apply.

Currency

The local currency is the East Caribbean dollar, EC $. Bank hours are Monday to Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Electricity

The voltage here is 110 volts 60 cycles. Dual voltage sockets are installed in all the bathrooms. Adaptors are available at Reception.

Departure Taxes

A Departure Tax of US $40 per person must be paid at Immigration at Union Island Airport (UNI) on your departure. The tax must be paid in cash. There are no ATMs at the airport.


Time Zone

The Grenadines are on Atlantic Standard Time (AST), 1 hour ahead of Eastern Standard Time (EST) in the US and 4 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

Passport Requirements

All passengers must travel with a valid passport with at least six months to the expiry date. All passengers must also travel with a return ticket.

Credit Cards

Major credit cards are readily accepted including Visa and MasterCard. Travelers Checks are also acceptable. However, American Express is not accepted.

Luggage

The luggage allowance for the connecting flights between Barbados and Union Island is one checked in bag, not to exceed 20 kgs/44 lbs. and one carry-on bag. We recommend you bring one change of clothes and medication in your carry on.

Yes, hair dryers, irons and ironing boards are in every room.

Is it safe to drink the tap water?

Beachfront rooms are only feet from the beach; Palm View rooms have views of the garden or the ocean. Island Lofts are located in a private garden and overlook the ocean.

Rooms have both air conditioning and ceiling fans.

There are local musicians and bands playing every night, apart from Tuesdays which is our Silent Movie night on the beach.

Do you rent bikes?

Bicycles are available at no charge. Ride the bike paths for a glimpse of all the amazing vistas from the island.

Can we scuba dive, fish and snorkel?

Yes, there are many excursions available through local tour and excursion providers. Our Reception Desk will be happy to arrange these trips for you.

Transportation

Do you provide transportation to nearby churches on Sunday?

Yes, if you wish to attend a local service, we will take you to Union Island.

Dining

Do your restaurants and bars pour brand liquor?

Yes, all restaurants and bars have brand liquors, and we serve local beer.

I have a restricted diet due to allergies, will I be limited to the items on the menu?

Due to the all-inclusive nature of the resort, and the large scale of our food and beverage operations, the resort cannot guarantee that food items will not come in contact with potential allergens even if a particular dish does not normally include these ingredients. Guests who may have severe allergic reactions to certain foods and allergens should take precautions.

The resort cannot guarantee that exposure to potential allergens will not occur. The resort frequently receives questions regarding special dietary needs and restrictions. In an all-inclusive setting, the resort is not able to accommodate individually tailored meals for specific guests.

The resort does offer a wide variety of meal choices, which includes salads, fresh fruits and vegetables, and vegetarian options. However, the resort is not able to cater to specific individual needs such as gluten free, allergen free, religious observance, or similar custom-made dishes. We thank you for your attention and understanding.

Do you provide snacks between meals?

There is Afternoon Tea provided daily.

Do I have to make reservations for dinner?

Reservations are only required for the Sunset Grill.

Is there a dress code?

We ask our guests to be island chic by day and elegantly smart in the evenings. By this we mean: In the restaurants, shoes are worn and bathing suits are covered. After 6:30 p.m., men wear shirts with collars and short or long sleeves (no t-shirts or tank tops), and slacks. Women wear dresses, skirts, slacks, culottes or tailored Bermuda-length shorts (no “short shorts” or cutoffs.) No jeans for men or women in the evenings. In summer, men can wear dress Bermudas.


The Island

Do I need a passport to travel to Palm Island?

Yes. A valid passport is required for travelers going to Palm Island via Barbados and as of December 31, 2005, a passport will be required for all US and Canadian citizens traveling to the Caribbean.

We strongly recommend that all members of your party travel with a passport with a validity date of at least six months past the date of your departure from the island.

I know the resort is in an island, but is there any shopping nearby?

You can take the short boat ride to Union Island and visit the town and shops there.

What kinds of additional services are provided by Palm Island?

For an additional charge, guests can arrange a boat charter, scuba excursions, deep sea fishing, snorkeling in the Tobago Cays and private picnic lunches served at one of 4 designated picnic areas on Palm Island

How do I get to Palm Island?

When booking your international flights to Grantley Adams International Airport, Barbados (BGI), please ensure that you arrive in Barbados at least 2 hours before or at 2:15 PM. For your return journey, departure from Barbados should be no earlier than 3 hours after or at 2:15 PM (if you are traveling in the morning). Upon your arrival, we’ll meet you and assist with your luggage and onward travel arrangements. Your next destination will be Union Island, with flights from BGI to UNI priced at $599 per person. You have the flexibility to reserve these flights yourselves or book them online, bearing in mind that online prices may sometimes be lower than $599 per person. Upon reaching Union Island, our launch will transport you to Palm Island Resort & Spa in just 10 minutes. If you have any inquiries or require assistance with flight bookings or trip planning, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re dedicated to ensuring your journey is as seamless and enjoyable as possible.

How far away is the nearest ATM machine?

There is an ATM machine in Union Island. Guest Services will arrange a visit if necessary. Also, the hotel can provide a cash advance on your Credit Card however a 5% commission will be applied.

Resort

Should I bring my medication and a change of clothes in my carry-on?

Yes, we highly advise you to do this. Sometimes the connection time between the arriving flight to Barbados and the departing inter-island flight to Union Island can be tight for all checked luggage to make the connection with you.

Is late check-out available or may I have a courtesy room if I have a late departure?

Yes, depending on individual situations, we will accommodate your needs.

What is required at check-in?

At check-in, guests are required to present valid government-issued identification (passport, driver’s license, ID card) along with a valid major credit card. This helps us confirm your arrival, and helps protect our guests by assisting with our fraud prevention measures. At check-in, a US $350 pre-authorization will be processed on your card to cover any incidental purchases or similar expenses. Incidental purchases may include things like tours, excursions, gift shop purchases, and dining in our specialty restaurant. We understand that not all guests incur additional charges during their stay, but this process assists the resort with fraud prevention. The pre-authorization is released at check-out, assuming you have not charged any purchases to your room.

Do you have Internet access?

Internet access is limited due to the remote location of our island paradise but is available in the Library and Reception areas. The Seagrape Suites and Villas also have Internet access.

Is there a gift shop resort?

Yes, we have a gift shop where you will find everything from beachwear and flip-flops to cold beverages and snacks.

What are the luggage restrictions on the flight from Barbados to Union Island?

Typically, you are allowed to bring one checked bag, and one carry on, as set out below.

  • Allowance of 1 standard piece of carry-on luggage per passenger not to exceed 13 lbs. (6 kilos).
  • One free checked bag per passenger not to exceed 44 lbs.
  • A second checked bag not to exceed 44 lbs (20 kilos) will be US $50.00 per bag.
  • A third checked bag not to exceed 44 lbs (20 kilos) will be US $100.00 per bag.
  • The maximum number of checked bags allowed per passenger will be 3 bags.

We always recommend traveling light and bringing the minimum amount of luggage to avoid airport and transfer delays. If you bring more than one checked bag, and one carry on, there may be delays and some of your luggage may not make the initial flight due to overall weight restrictions. Getting to Palm Island is the part of the adventure.

Do you have a spa?

Yes, Palm Island Resort & Spa has a lovely Spa offering a wide variety of massage and beauty treatments, which can be purchased locally during your stay at the resort.

What are the telephone charges to dial internationally?

The charges depend on the destination of the call but are billed through a local operator and are subject to local and long-distance charges.

Are there theme nights?

Every Wednesday night is BBQ night and Saturday night is Caribbean buffet at the Royal Palm Restaurant.

Does the hotel charge a Resort Fee?

Yes, a Resort Fee of US$24 per room, per night applies to all bookings. The resort fee is payable locally at the resort and includes wi-fi.
